Description
Guided tour of the main places and monuments of the Villa de Ribadavia, its Jewish quarter, its castle, churches, Plaza Mayor, House of the Inquisition, Ethnological Museum. Anecdotes and stories from the Ribeiro wine capital, accompanied by a local guide.
The Ribeiro Wine Denomination is undoubtedly one of the best known in Spain. Its wines have been marketed in Galicia, in many parts of Spain as well as in Northern Europe and America.
The good wine trade has left us in the region a valuable heritage, a living trace of its wine-growing tradition and deep history, among which the cave presses, pazos, Romanesque churches, monasteries and beautiful villages stand out.
The capital, Ribadavia, sits on the banks of the Avia River, close to the confluence with the Miño River. The towers of its churches and the castle of the Sarmiento family stand on the roofs of the town’s houses.
Numerous Jews lived in the town during the Middle Ages, which has allowed the town to be one of the towns belonging to the Network of Spanish Jewish Quarters-Caminos de Sefarad. The numerous squares, the wall with its old gates and the narrow streets give Ribadavia all the charm of a medieval town, which has managed to grow over time, maintaining the essence of its traditions and knowing how to live.
The muleteers, the pilgrims of the Miñoto road or the Touza Sisters, are part of the characters and themes of this guided tour that will take us into the heart of the Ribeiro.
