    Description

Galicia gathers one third of all the place names in Spain, the population dispersion has favored the appearance of a rich toponymy of villages and towns that communicate with a complex layout of modern roads, but that preserve their old roads, used along of the centuries for the daily tasks and the meeting of its neighbors.

It is said of Galicia that it is the land of a thousand rivers, and it is true but also of the thousands of paths and roads that structure our community as if it were a fine and dense spider web.

We keep our muleteer paths, which were used to bring wine from southern Galicia to the cities and towns, our octopus paths that linked the coast and the interior to bring octopus but also cod or sardines or horse mackerel. We also have Roman roads such as the famous Via Nova, Via XVIII of the Itinerary of Antonino, or the royal roads, which appeared in the Middle Ages. Other more recent ones are the smuggling routes, through which products were passed between Portugal and Galicia, such as coffee, but also cattle or penicillin.

There are so many paths, that for their identification they have been baptized with a rich and varied toponymy, which is sometimes very curious because of the origin or stories that it may have.

Of all the roads, the one to Santiago is the best known, among the roads to Santiago, we can name the Vía de la Plata, El Camino del Norte, the Camino de Invierno, the Portuguese, the English etc … that make up part of the official roads that are recognized as pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela.

Today many of our paths are recovered and signposted to enjoy them, to travel them, to know nature, its heritage, places and people, to immerse in the local environment and feel the environment in a more sensitive way.

At Genuine Galicia we want to bring you closer to these unknown paths and for you to experience our environment as we Galicians perceive it, do not hesitate to look at our offer of activities or to hire a tailor-made route. We can make a small route with you, include it in a cultural route or accompany you on the itinerary for several days until you reach your goal.
